Built in a traditional neighbourhood in Sao Paulo, surrounded by old houses with roofs, this project reflects the desire of its resident to live in a “house shaped house”, but without sacrificing the contemporaneity. While the triangle shaped roof communicates with the other houses around, respecting and paying homage to the history of the neighbourhood, the materials and overall design of the house do not deny its modernity.
The principal element of the house is what we call the “cloak”. The slats that at first apparent to be wood, are actually made of a steel structure coated with HPL (high-pressure compact laminate) panels.
A concrete wall with the length of the house and a built-in bar is the second main element.
Glass, painted steel and stone complement the design. And despite being somewhat a narrow house, its various openings (including a garden in the middle of the living room) flood the spaces with light.
A pool and vertical garden take advantage of the linearity of the site.
︎ The scope of my work in this project involved the architectural detailing of multiple elements of the house, such as the pool, the concrete wall/bar, the HPL panel facade and woodwork drawings.
